I got a commission!!

I am generally wary of comissions, I've had a few where I have put in an awful lot of effort even going as far as purchasing yarn and the whole thing falls though without as much as a single penny coming my way.

Anyhow, I was contacted at the end of last week by a lovely Etsy buyer.  She saw my bluebells crochet pattern but doesn't know how to crochet herself, so she asked if I wouldn't mind making some for her.

So I did :)

These are made using 100% cotton 4ply yarn



When I've made them before I put a brooch pin at the back, but this time they are for a 1 year old, so (for safety) I have left them just as they are.

As I always do, I have attached one of my little Walnut Baby tags on a piece of yarn.  In this case I used that to hang my bluebells for one of the photos.


And finally I boxed them up for their trip to their new home.



Its nice to get out one of my patterns and try it out again.  I was trying to think what else I could do with them if/when I make them again, other than make a brooch - but what else?

Crochet summer bag, with flowers

This was one of my evolving projects, I was on a "making flowers" kick and then needed to make them into something.  So I thought of a nice summer handbag/purse.

I love the yarn I used, its Sirdar's Luxury soft 4Ply cotton yarn.  It does have the tendancy to split but its lovely to work with and the finished product is so soft and touchable.

I didn't want to make a plain or just striped bag, so I used the spike stitch to create a nice effect.

I also didn't want to just sew some flowers onto the bag as "decoration" so I made the flap from them

Just for fun I also threw in a small butterfly in the flowers :)

I have not decided if this is for sale or not yet ....

Irish Crochet flowers

After my lack of success with the little floweret I thought I'd give some other irish crochet flowers a try.  I'm never one to give up.

I created five different flowers ranging in size and complexity.

Walnut Baby

I am most pleased with the central flower although they all turned out quite well.  Again getting the depth of padding cord right seems to be critical.  When using coloured threads this can be more of a challenge, with white thread it is readily available in multiple thicknesses, however trying to match coloured threads is practically impossible.  In the case above, and indeed with all my coloured pieces, I have to create the padding cord by using multiple strands of the working thread.

When working with the multiple strands it gets quite fiddly and you have to be even more careful of the padding cord bunching up and creating lumps in your work.
